Sheriff’s Office Resolves Barricade Situation
On March 4, 2026, deputies with the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 500 block of Forester Avenue in Cumberland, MD, to serve a court order. Upon arrival, the subject barricaded himself in a bedroom while armed with a knife.
During the incident, deputies learned the subject had assaulted a family member with the knife several hours prior. After approximately one hour, the subject was taken into custody. During the arrest, the subject assaulted a deputy.
The subject was subsequently transported to UPMC for treatment. Charges are pending, and Forester Avenue was closed briefly during the response.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Special Operations Response Team (S.O.R.T.), Sheriff’s Negotiators, and the Sheriff’s Technology Team.
