Clean Slate Act Passes Senate

Maryland’s Senate passed SB483 late last week. The “Clean Slate Act” was co-sponsored by District 1 Senator Mike McKay along with six other senators. The bill automates the process for sealing certain arrest and conviction records once individuals become eligible, provided they remain crime-free for a set period. Senator McKay said people who have fulfilled sentencing need a second chance to find a job and housing…
“I don’t know what the other option is. To allow them to go back and commit crimes and continue. We have to figure out a way that we’re restoring people’s lives so they can become productive members of society. I’m willing to give them that chance.”
