Buckel’s Attempt To Ditch “Tech Tax” Fails
Maryland’s so-called “Tech Tax” passed last year in the General Assembly was expected to bring in over $500 million dollars in the 2026 Fiscal Year. The tax imposes a 3% sales and use tax on specific digital, data, and information technology services. Collections of the tax have only totaled $35 million, far below expectations. House Minority Leader Jason Buckel presented a failed budget amendment that would halt the tax on the industry, saying he recalled the words of a former delegate on such taxes…
