Brown Sues DC Over Sewage Spill

Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown has filed suit against DC Water seeking penalties and damages for costs associated with the contamination of the Potomac River from a late January sewage spill. A 72-inch section of the Potomac Interceptor sewer line released over 200 million gallons of raw sewage in to the Potomac. Russel Horne who worked on Joint Task Force Katrina, said this line was past its usability date…
“Who’s driving a 60-year old car? And it’s indicative of the sewer system in the District which is over 100 years old. So, it’s a piece of infrastructure that the president and the governor and the DC governing body need to review and go to Congress and make sure we’ve got the money to start a replacement system.”
