Schools Making Headway on Absenteeism

Late last week, Maryland’s Blueprint for Education Accountability and Implementation Board heard updates from schools on Pillar 4. This particular part of the Blueprint concentrates on designated community schools and how they assist students and families with needs beyond the classroom. Allegany County has 17 designated community schools. Jenny Ramsey, Allegany County’s Community School Coordinator, shared with the board that absenteeism has been a major focus…

“I’m happy to report since 2022, in our elementary schools we’ve seen and 11% decrease in chronic absenteeism. And a lot of that work has been centered around those designated as community schools.”
