City To Approach MML About Bike Legislation

The continued rise in the presence of motorized bicycles across the state is causing municipalities like Cumberland to amend bicycle laws for safety reasons.  During this week’s work session of the Cumberland City Council, City Administrator Jeff Silka said he would like to approach the Maryland Municipal League to put together legislation giving the state oversight for such transportation…

“They’re going against traffic, they’re going on sidewalks, they’re buzzing people, they’re not using helmets. And as the electric bikes morph, they become more powerful and become more of a hazard to pedestrians and true bicycle riders.”
