Governor Allows Community Trust Act to Become Law

By not signing or vetoing it, Governor Wes Moore allowed the controversial Community Trust Act to become law. In a statement, the governor noted that the bill presents real implementation challenges that must be addressed. The act stipulates that law enforcement cannot detain or prolong someone’s detention for Immigration and Customs Enforcement unless there is a warrant signed by a judge. Allegany County Sheriff Craig Robertson said the state’s sheriffs plan to respond to the law being enacted…
“Most of the sheriffs in the state of Maryland are meeting. We are talking to attorneys in regards to filing a lawsuit against the State of Maryland.”
