WV Natural Gas Power Plant Could Fuel Future Data Center

FirstEnergy subsidiaries Mon Power and Potomac Edison are asking West Virginia energy regulators to raise rates in order to cover the costs of a natural gas-powered power plant to be located in Monongalia County.  The plant is projected to cost $2 billion and generate enough power for half a million homes.  Courtney MacDonald with West Virginians for Energy Freedom says that amount of energy is not needed for the area and could mean the facility would power a future data center…

“So you can think of it as people are taking all of the risks, utilities are taking none of the risks.  The Public Service Commission has not approved this plan, and so this is really our prime opportunity to push back.”
