Trump Initiative Would Restart AES Warrior Run

President Donald Trump is preparing to inject hundreds of millions of federal dollars to support coal-fired electricity as well as exports of the fossil fuel from the United States, in a move that will directly affect AES Warrior Run at Mexico Farms.

Trump is expected to announce the distribution of $425 million in DPA funds to 13 existing coal plants, as well as restart the AES Warrior Run. The power plant saw their contract with Potomac Edison bought out in 2023, ceasing coal-burning operations at the plant.

The planned government funding is aimed at helping drive production of coal-fired electricity, increasing demand for coal that had declined for years as utilities shifted toward cheaper natural gas and renewables.
