The Cumberland Mayor and City Council voted on two new ways of monitoring traffic downtown and in school zones.  Through satellite, the Speed and Traffic Calming Solution will collect traffic data of various streets from apps such as Wayz and Google Maps.  The City also added an order to Wednesday’s agenda allowing RedSpeed to determine the placement of speed cameras in the City’s school zones.  Though passed together, City Administrator Jeff Silka says the two methods are not interconnected…

“The speed calming software gives us data to be able to deploy whether it be enhanced enforcements, maybe speed calming measures, or other traffic management. The cameras are specifically cameras that has to be deployed within the state regulations based within school zones.”
