Voter Turnout Low in Maryland

Tuesday’s Primary Election in Maryland saw less than a 20% turnout state wide. Allegany and Garrett Counties each had more than 20% of eligible voters come to the polls. Cecil County was the lowest in the state with only 12.4% of voters showing up. WCBC Political Commentator Dave Williams talked about reasons people do or don’t vote in the primary…
“It’s a non-presidential year to begin with. That’s going to suppress the turnout by 25 to 30%. And then you’ve got all these candidates, some of whom are lifelong Republicans, some of whom are not, and a lot of issues being kicked around that various candidates hope are pivotal to people’s decisions.”
