Hotel/Motel Tax Funding Requests Received

This year, the City of Cumberland has received $86,000 in funding requests from 13 groups for a share of the city’s hotel/motel tax. The fund has $45,000 to distribute, so the mayor and council took a first look at requests Wednesday evening. City Administrator Jeff Silka said some of the applications were late or submitted incorrectly, and the city would like to see more detail about the use of the monies…
“Especially with providing us with past budgets. Showing us how last year’s expenditures were expended. Because this is public money being dispersed to private organizations, it eventually comes back to us on how we’re stewards of that fund.”
