Legislation Would Allow Pause For Data Centers

After striking down a statewide three-year moratorium on data center proposals, a Pennsylvania Senate committee has advanced a house bill to allow municipalities to enact a pause on the consideration of A.I. data centers. Delegate Paul Friel says House Bill 2496 authorizes municipalities to adopt a temporary moratorium of up to 6 months on consideration of data center proposals…
“What we’ve tried to do with House Bill 2496 is strike that balance between respecting local control, promoting thoughtful planning, and making sure this is going to hold up under scrutiny and legal challenges which are inevitably going to come with this onslaught from the industry.”
