Economic development can be difficult in small towns, but in West Virginia, public agencies and nonprofit investors are turning high-risk redevelopment into new businesses that are reviving many rural communities. Redevelopments from a cookie store to senior housing are reawakening the economy in rural West Virginia.  Cindi Alkire, a small business owner, says these developments benefit everyone…

“They not only bought the building that we’re in, they also bought two more, and they are working on rehabbing them. That will be another business that will be able to grow and thrive in the community.”
