Eligibility for Statin Drugs Expands

Newly updated clinical guidelines suggest that statin drugs may now be prescribed for adults between the ages of 30 and 79, a shift from previous recommendations. According to a study by the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine, the shift is seen as a sea change for doctors counseling patients. Previously, younger patients in their 30s and 40s flagged with high cholesterol were encouraged to focus on diet and exercise unless other health factors were involved.
