“The test is for a protein called PTAU-217. It’s currently used to help diagnose whether people experiencing cognitive problems have Alzheimer’s or another disorder. The scientists behind the new study say symptom-free older adults with very high levels of PTAU-217 had a 38% risk of developing cognitive impairment over five years, 78% in ten years.”
