BPW Approves New Voting System

Maryland’s Board of Public Works approved a new voting system for the state at the tune of $109 million dollars. The system would be in place for the 2028 elections. Questions have been raised by state lawmakers on the cost of the system, citing some portions that are not ready to undergo testing and certification. State Elections Administrator Jared DeMarinis said the existing system is beyond repair…

“Why is all this needed here? Because the current system is over 11 years old, they no longer manufacture parts for it. The ballot marking device that I believe you voted on, they don’t make them anymore. Every time they break, we lose one. And that’s our accessibility voting as well.”
