House Passes Constitutional Amendment For Referendum

Maryland General Assembly
Kathy Cornwell

A bill paving the way for Maryland’s congressional districts to be redrawn passed the House in Annapolis on Tuesday. By a vote of 96 to 38, the bill moved to the Senate for consideration. The House debated the bill late into the night Monday before taking a vote late Tuesday morning. House Minority Leader Jason Buckel said he was confused that actual maps are not resulting from the special session…

“I am not an idiot. People in this room are not idiots. We understand that the only reason to do this is to prevent a legal challenge that prevented you the last time from doing something that you want to do this time. If you’re not going to do it, then why are we having a special session?”
