City’s IT Director Retires

Information Technology Director for the City of Cumberland, Johnna Byers, is retiring after serving the City for 29 years.  Byers started her career with the City in 1997 and became director in 2007.  The Mayor and Council recognized Byers’ retirement during a recent council meeting.  Mayor Ray Morriss shared how he would often attempt to relay information from Maryland Municipal League meetings regarding cybersecurity to Byers..

“I’d say, ‘Now Johnna, by the way, you know, I was in a meeting, and they were talking about this’—or whatever it would be.  Then Johnna would look at me and say, ‘Mayor, don’t worry.  We have that under control.’  And I always knew that she did.”
