Handgun Arrest at Canal Place

On Saturday, August 29, 2026, Cumberland Police Department Officers responded to the area of Canal Street for a report of a gunshot. Upon their arrival, Officers were able to locate the suspects in the area. Che Howard Jr was identified on scene, and through an investigation, a handgun was located. It was learned that the subjects had fired the handgun into the water of the Potomac River. An application for charges was submitted, and a warrant was issued for Howard. On Sunday, August 30, 2026, Howard was located, placed under arrest, and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center, where he was held without bond pending his trial.

ARRESTED: Che’ Anthony Howard Jr., 18, Cumberland, MD.
CHARGES: Unlawful Firearm Possession, Alter Firearm Serial Number, Handgun on Person, Loaded Handgun on Person, Reckless Engagement, Disorderly Conduct.
