Study Done on Downtown Redevelopment

Downtown Redevelopment Services, a municipal planning consulting firm, created a Real Estate Development Plan for Downtown Cumberland. Funded by a Department of Housing and Community Development Grant, the study highlights investing around the busiest places, defining subareas, redeveloping aging strip commercial centers, and identifies catalyst sites. At Tuesday’s City Council meeting, Planning Lead Nathan Davis said the goal is to plan for future public investment…
“Overall we are looking to promote real estate development opportunities that improve walkability, bikeability, increase spending at non-anchor businesses—particularly away from Canal Place, moving circulation further towards the Amtrak Station—supporting higher rents for mid-block spaces, improving perceptions of downtown, and just increasing overall business revenue and subsequently tax revenue.”
