The six individuals running for school board in Allegany County, do seem to be unanimous that school consolidations are not on the table for the foreseeable future. Standing board member Dr. David Bohn said they are using all available space…

“Washington Elementary – we added on for extra programs, that was a recent development there. Westmar we brought in preschool and used rooms that were vacant there for other purposes for younger students as a community school.”

Current board member Lori Lepley believes the system is growing…

“I don’t think that we have such declining enrollment right now where there’s a need to close anything or consolidate anything. And we are growing with the Blueprint.”

Challenger Steven Moon says numbers would indicate when it’s time to consolidate…

“You can’t have a school that has just one student in it, so you just need to base all these decisions based on data, and forecasting around that data. Forecasting is obviously kind of tricky because you can’t see the future.”
