Route 50 Project Begins Phase Two

Gary Howell
Jim Zamagias

Phase two of the U.S. Route 50 Tourism Project has started, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the highway.  A drive through arch to be located in Burlington, West Virginia will provide hands-on experience for welding students at the Mineral County Technical Center through a legislative grant from Mineral County Delegate Gary Howell. He says Route 50 is both a tourism and economic development investment…

“There’s a lot of car clubs and motorcycle groups that tour U.S. 50 as it’s one of the few transcontinental highways in the United States.  People are familiar with U.S. 1, Route 66, but even Route 50 has a following of its own.  The idea is, ‘Hey, we’ve pulled off here to get our picture, let’s go get something to eat—we support the local economy.’’
