Animal Shelter

Do you love dogs and cats? If you are an animal lover and have some time to spare the Allegany County Animal Shelter is looking for volunteers to help at the shelter. Applications and information are available at www.alleganyanimalshelter.com. ACAS is the only municipal no-kill shelter in the state of Maryland.

Farmer's Market

While the Farmer's Market  runs through the end of October every Thursday from 9am-1pm, the Allegany County Animal Shelter will be on hand at the the Farmer's Market to accept donations for the shelter.

Prayer Meeting

Allegany Museum Dancing with the Local Stars

AlleganyMuseum will be the new host of 'Dancing with the Local Stars' in 2018. We hope it will be a successful fundraiser for the museum-enough to keep the lights on for one year, perhaps? As well as the actual event, we would like to have a partner exhibition that focuses on the history of dancing in our local area-schools, ballrooms, teachers, ballerinas, etc., stc. Helping Your Child Develop Social Skills Workshop

There will be a workshop conducted on Thursday, October 19th from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at the Jefferson School, located at the Finan Center, 10102 Countryt Club Rd. SE, Cumberland. Laura Alkire, School Counselor, Allegany County Public Schools, will present this workshop giving parents practical tools to use in helping their child develop socialization skills and in making lasting fiendships. Technology at the Gap Conference

The second annual Technology at the Gap Conference will be held on Tuesday, October 24th at the Rocky Gap Casino Resort. Registration and breakfast begins at 7:00am and the first keynote speaker will begin at 8:45am. Additionally, the night before, there will be a pre-conference networking session in the event space from 6:00-8:00pm. All of the event sponsors, speakers, amd attendees are invited to attend this casual event that will include hors d'oeuvres, cas bar, and acoustic music by Surrender Dorothy. Spaghetti Dinner

There will be a spaghetti dinner held on Saturday, October 28th at Melvin United Methodist Church, located at the corner of Marion and Reynolds streets from 4:30pm until 7:00pm. Take Back

Maryland State Police, in cooridination with the Allegany County Health Dept. Behavioral Services, will conduct a prescription drug take bak day on Thursday, October 26th from 2-6pm. Turn in your unused or expired prescription medication for safe disposal. The location is Pharma Care, Bedford Road, 11306 Bedford Road, Cumberland. Home pick-up is also available when you contact the Maryland State Police at (301)729-2101, Ext. 7188. Funding is provided by the Allegany County Health Department Opioid Misuse Prevention Program through the Behavioral Health Administration and SAMHSA.

Ghouley Crawl

On Saturday, October 28th, the Ghouley Pub Crawl will take place in Cumberland from 6:00pm until 2:00am. It's a time to enjoy your selves but definitely be safe!!

Trick or Treat

Children's Trick or Treating will be held on Saturday, October 28th, downtown, from 11am til 1pm and Canal Place from 1pm til 2pm. Downtown Cumberland has great entertainment scheduled. A free magic show by Wolford Productions will take place at 11am on the stage at Town Center and another at noon. Children will be able to get creative with arts and crafts by the Cumberland Parks & Recreation Department.

Gun & Cash Bash

The Bittinger Volunteer Fire Dept. Is having a Gun & Cash Bash on Saturday, October 28th at the Garrett County Fairgrounds. Tickets for the event are $25.00 each and guests are $20.00. You need not be present to win.

The Fly-In/Drive-In Breakfast will be held at the Greater Cumberland Regional Airport on Sunday, October 29th from 9am until 1pm. Robotics Tournament

SuGo Robotics Tournament-Build a robot to compete in a Sumo Wrestler style tournament. It's free to enter! No material needed! No experience needed! Limited amount of spots, so register immediately! Bazaar

Park Place United Methodist Church, located at 80 National Highway in LaVale will hold a Christmas Bazaar on Friday and Saturday, November 3rd & 4th respectively from 9am til 1pm. New craft items, candy, baked goods and holiday decor will be sold to benefit local charities. Thanks for your help with our church and community. We appreciate you! Our church is small but we are trying to make a difference.

Craft Show

The GFWC of Romney is hosting their annual "Holiday Craft Show" on November 3rd, 4th and 5th in Romney, WV at the Romney Elementary School on School St. On Friday we will open for the public at 6pm, then on Saturday we open at 9am and stay open till 5pm. On Sunday we open at 1pm and close at 4pm. This is an all handmade craft show with over 60 spaces spoken for. There is no charge for the public at the door. The crafters are all in charge of their own sales. Please come and enjoy this weekend event. We have hosted this show for over years.

Band Bash Benefit

There will be a band bash at the Cumberland Outdoor Club to benefit Brent Turner and his medical bills incured from his battle with cancer, doors open at 4, bands start at 5.  Bands include the Cramer Brothers with Tim Haines, The Ally Norris Trio, Strangerz, Last Call, and a special appearance by Mina Murray.  Dinners will be served by Wing and a Prayer starting at 4.  There will also be raffles and 50/50 drawings.  Entry is $10 for ages 6 & up, $5 for ages 5 and below.

Holiday Bazaar

The Fort Ashby Community Educational Outreach Service (CEOS-formerly "homemakers") will be sponsoring their 35th annual fall/holiday bazaar on Saturday, November 4th from 9:00am until 2:00pm. The bazaar will be held at the Fort Ashby Fire Hall. There will be various vendors and crafts. There will be a chance table and silent auction. New this year-dime toss. A variety of baked goods and refreshments will be available.

National Day of Prayer/ Veterans Day Prayer Event

The National Day of Prayer Veterans Day of  prayer event will be held on Sunday, November 5th at 6:00pm at Central Assembly of God with guest speaker, Vietnam Veteran Dave Roever. This service will be honoring any and all Vets present with a specially minted coin. Freewill offering will be collected for the speaker. Veterans Program

All Veterans should be in attendance at Central Assembly of God, located at 2020 Bedford St, Cumberland, Md for the Veterans Day Program to honor them. The program begins at 6:00pmwith Vietnam Veteran and Purple Heart recipient Dave Roever. Each Veteran in attendance will be honored and presented with a specially-minted coin. The Wiley Fird Volunteer Fire Department will have their monthly hoagie sale on Friday, Nov. 10th and Saturday, Nov. 11th until sold out. These are 12" ham hoagies with all the fixings and are delicious! The price is just $6.00. The fire department is located just off of Rt. 28 in Wiley Ford, WV. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the fire department.

Spirit Night

Come join us at Roy Rogers on Thursday, Vovember 16th from 5-8pm to support a gereat cause and race! The Mental Health Matters 5 mile Rum/1.5 Walk is an annual event held at Canal Place currently going into its 3rd year. The 2018 event is scheduled for May 12th at 8:00am. Proceeds benefit the Behavioral Health System's Office of the Allegany County Health Dept. We will be having a bake sale that same noght as well. The Ellerslie United Metodist Youth Group is holding its 3rd Annual Shop-a-Palooza, a vendor fair on Saturday, December 2nd from 10am until 3pm at the Fellowship Hall in Ellerslie, Md.
