On Thursday, May 27th, 2021 the Cumberland Police Department responded to the area of Baltimore and Park Street for the report of a male assaulting another male. When officers arrived in the area, they located a male with serious facial injuries. The male told officers that he had been assault by another male who had fled the area and provided officers with a description. Officers located a male matching the given description nearby who was identified as Kendall Shane Lowers. Lowers was identified by the victim as the male that had assaulted him and arrested. He was charged with 1st and 2nd degree assault and taken before the District Court Commissioner. He was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center held without bond. The victim was treated by the Cumberland Fire Department.

On Wednesday, March 31st, 2021, the Cumberland City Police responded to a residence in the 200 block of Decatur St for the report of an assault. Upon arrival on scene, Officers contacted a female victim. The victim alleged that she and a male suspect, Andrew Wayne Dawson, had gotten into a verbal altercation inside the home. She advised the incident turned physical and Dawson shoved her to the ground, causing an injury to her leg. Dawson then left the scene on foot.
Officers were able to locate Dawson a short distance away from the home and take him into custody. Dawson was searched incident to arrest and he was found to be concealing multiple hypodermic syringes on his person, one of which caused injury to an officer on scene.
As a result of the incident, Dawson was charged Second Degree Assault and Reckless Endangerment. He was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance where he was released on his own personal recognizance.
