BENCH WARRANT SERVED

 

On Saturday, June 21, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department served a Circuit Court bench warrant on Travis Shaffer.  The warrant was issued as the result of Shaffer violating pre-trial release conditions on an original charge of CDS: Possess with Intent to Distribute.  Shaffer was arrested and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center where he is currently being held without bond pending his appearance before the court.

CDS ARREST

 

On Saturday, June 21, 2025 at approximately 8:17 PM, an officer of the Cumberland Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 68 westbound.  The officer contacted the operator who was identified as Kelly Channell.  Police later discovered that Channell had an active arrest warrant through the ATF.  A police K-9 was utilized which resulted in a positive alert for the odor of drugs.  A search of the vehicle was conducted and Channell was found to be in possession of a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine. Multiple other controlled dangerous substances and were located as well.  Channell was arrested and transported to Central Booking. The warrant was used as a detainer and Channell is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.

CDS ARREST
On Friday, March 28, 2025 at approximately 10:30 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business on W. Industrial Blvd. for a male subject passed out behind the steering wheel of his vehicle.  Police contacted the operator who was identified as Andrew Viney.  Officers discovered that the registration plates on Viney’s vehicle had been stolen from another vehicle.  Officers also learned that Viney had an active arrest warrant through West Virginia.  Viney was placed under arrest and searched.  Viney was found to be in possession of suspected controlled dangerous substances and paraphernalia.  Viney was transported to Central Booking and later seen by a District Court Commissioner for a bond hearing.  At the conclusion, Viney was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond.

CRIMINAL SUMMONS SERVED
On Friday, March 28, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department served criminal summonses on Shane Williams, Haley Portmess, and Tiffany Davis.  The summonses were issued as the result of an incident that occurred on March 3, 2025 at approximately 2:43 PM when officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of Dorn Avenue for an assault.  Police contacted Williams, Portmess, and Davis and learned that a mutual assault had occurred between parties.  After further investigation, police filed for charges against them at the District Court of Allegany County.  All parties signed for their copy of the summons and they were released pending trial.
