Cumberland Man Arrested on Assault Charges

On Sunday, April 11th, 2021 the Cumberland Police Department responded Byrd Avenue residence for the report of a disturbance.  When officers arrived, they could hear a male yelling.  Officers were able to contact 2 residents who claimed that the male identified, as Maurice Tyson, had been inside wielding a knife at them and would not allow them to leave prior to police arriving.  At this point, Tyson became uncooperative with officers resisted briefly while trying to arrest him.  He was charged with 2 counts of 1st degree assault, 2 counts of 2nd, degree assault, and 2 counts of false imprisonment.  Tyson was taken before the District Court Commissioner and was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center held without bond.

On Sunday January 12, 2020, at 1:54 am, the Cumberland Police responded to West Oldtown Road for a disturbance where a subject brandished a firearm.  Upon arrival officers contacted the suspect Bryan Kidwell, age 21 of Cumberland, Maryland, along with several witnesses, and victims.  Officer learned that on multiple occasions neighbors had asked Mr. Kidwell to quiet down due to the time of night.  Despite their best efforts, Mr. Kidwell continued to create a disturbance.  Ultimately during the verbal confrontation with neighbors, Mr. Kidwell entered his residence and obtained a riffle.  Mr. Kidwell then exited his residence and pointed the firearm at the victim.  Officers recovered the firearm and placed Kidwell under arrest for assault 1st degree, assault 2nd degree, and disorderly conduct.  Kidwell was later provided his Initial Appearance in District Court and released on a $25,000 unsecured bond. 

 

The Cumberland Police is seeking information related to the destruction of a large monument in the St. Peter and Paul Cemetery.  The incident  occurred between the evening hours of January 8th and January 12th.  Anyone with information related to this incident please contact the Cumberland Police Department or Allegany County Crime Solvers.
