Cumberland Police Serve Warrants

August 19th, 2023 by WCBC Radio

On Friday, August 18, 2023, the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant, a bench warrant, and a criminal summons on Branden Clark.  The arrest warrant was issued as the result of an incident that occurred on July 8, 2023.  On this date at approximately 5:51 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 400 block of Maryland Avenue for subjects passed out in a vehicle.  Officers arrived and contacted the occupants; one of them was identified as Branden Clark.  A search of the vehicle and occupants were conducted.  Clark was found to be in possession of suspected crack cocaine, suspected fentanyl, and suspected heroin.  Police filed for charges against Clark at the District Court of Allegany County.  The bench warrant was issued as the result of Clark violating probation on original charges of Possession with Intent to Distribute Narcotics.   The summons was issued as the result of an incident that occurred on August 3, 2023 when police responded to a business on Ali-Ghan Rd. to check on the well-being of subjects in a vehicle.  The officer obtained their information and it was determined that no police assistance was required.  Police later learned that one of the occupants had provided a false name to the officer to avoid being arrested on an active warrant.  The occupant was later positively identified as Branden Clark.  Charges were filed against Clark at the District Court of Allegany County.  Clark was arrested and transported to Central Booking.  He was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center on a temporary commitment-recalcitrant.

A Cumberland man was held without bond after being charged with a domestic assault Friday. City Police were called to a Gleason Street residence where a woman alleged she had been slapped in the face by 30 year old James Steven Whittington during an argument. Whittington was arrested after police observed injuries consistent with that account.

Cumberland Police served a bench warrant on a city man who had failed to show up for trial in District Court on drug charges. 53 year old Randy Edward Walker had missed his trial date on October 1st for possession of CDS, and was taken before a District Court Commissioner and then released after promising to show up for his next appearance.
