Fatal Accident in Hagerstown

Just after 1:30 Friday morning troopers from the Hagerstown Barrack responded to the area of N/B I-81 at the 4 Mile Marker for a tractor trailer collision.  Upon arrival troopers determined a tractor trailer traveled off the roadway and overturned.  The driver, Nonamegiven Simrat of Queens, NY was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the tractor was unrestrained and was ejected from the vehicle. No other vehicles or passengers were involved.  TFC Socks, advanced collision investigator, is the investigating trooper. The interstate was shut down for a short period of time during the investigation. One lane of I-81 N/B was used by the tow company to upright the tractor trailer.

Late Friday night, Hagerstown Barrack personnel responded to the scene of a serious personal injury collision located at Rt-64 west of Little Antietam Road. The investigation determined that a Black BMW passenger car, being driven by a Kevin Argueta a 22 year old male from Silver Spring, MD was traveling westbound on Rt-64 at a high rate of speed. The black BMW passed a white Kia Soul, crossing over a double yellow line. The black BMW side swiped the left front corner of the Kia Soul while passing and lost control while traveling at a high rate of speed. As the Black BMW spun out of control it ran off onto the westbound shoulder and into a residential property. The BMW struck a tree on the passenger side of the vehicle then struck a White Chrysler Van parked in the driveway of 20702 Jefferson BLVD. The Chrysler Van was subsequently pushed into the house causing structure damage.

 

The front passenger of the BMW sustained serious injury and was transported to Meritus Hospital in Hagerstown. At 5:10 am the Hagerstown Barrack was advised that the female passenger, Melanie Melendez, a 19 year old from Smithsburg, Maryland had died from her inquires sustained in the accident. 

 

At this time the accident is still under investigation and no charges have been filed as of yet.
