Fatal Vehicle Collision

MSP- Hagerstown was dispatched to W/B I-70 at the 18 Mile marker for a motor vehicle collision involving serious injuries. While on-route to the collision dispatch was informed the crash involved a single vehicle with serious injuries to the driver, and sole occupant. EMS arrived on scene and attempted life saving measures. Ultimately, the driver was transported to Meritus Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased at 2341 hours, by medical staff.

When Hagerstown Barrack Troopers arrived on scene it was determined that the vehicle, a 2019 Toyota Camry, was traveling in an unknown lane on westbound Interstate 70, prior to the collision. For reasons unknown at this time, the vehicle traveled off the roadway and into the center median, ultimately striking a tree before coming to rest.

The driver was identified at Meritus Medical Center from his PA driver's license as a 27 year old white male, Tyler Nicholas Dunkin from Needmore, PA. The Pennsylvania State Police were contacted and requested to make notification to the decedent’s next of kin.  Notification was made to an immediate family member at 0054 hours by Pennsylvania Trooper’s. 

This investigation is ongoing.  Maryland State Police Reconstructionist responded to the scene to complete a full detailed crash investigation report.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hagerstown Barrack at 301-766-3800.

On 1/20/16 at approximately 1308 hours the Maryland State Police Cumberland barrack responded to a single vehicle collision Westbound I-68 East of National Pike, Flintstone, MD.  Investigation revealed that the operator, Shara Cole, Berryvilla, VA, was traveling in lane #1 and drifted off the shoulder into the gravel median.  At this point the vehicle traveled across all three lanes striking a cilvert on the right shoulder.  After striking the culvert the vehicle went airborne striking a tree prior to coming to rest.  Cole was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.  The investigation is continuing by Troopers from the Maryland State Police.

Assisting at the scene of the collision was Flintstone VFD, District 16 ambulance and Department of Natural Resources Police.
