Governor Declares State of Emergency

May 16th, 2025 by WCBC Radio

Governor Wes Moore wasted no time on his visit to Lonaconing and Westernport to declare a state of emergency for the area to strengthen the state’s coordinated effort in response to flood damage in the region.  Moore assembled state level cabinet heads, Congresswoman April McClain Delaney, and local officials for a special briefing Thursday evening in Lonaconing. Moore praised the community’s response to the disaster…

“That even in a very short period of time, just how well this community has mobilized. Just the fact that we are talking about an event that has significant damage but zero casualties – that doesn’t happen by accident. That’s happens because you have the country’s best who responded.”

Moore went on to say that the county has the full support of state resources to help build back the area…

“The support that you have from me – from this entire administration, from our congressional delegation – great to see you, Congresswoman, from our entire state – it’s just beginning. And you have my word on that because we’re going to rebuild and be back stronger than ever.”
