Hooley Plunge Scheduled for March 5th

In its eighteenth year, the Hooley Plunge has become the largest single-day fundraising event in Allegany County. Scheduled for Saturday, March 5, hundreds of brave souls run into the cold waters of Lake Habeeb at Rocky Gap State Park to raise money for local programs supporting the developmentally disabled. Since its inception, over 1.7 million dollars have been raised.  The inspiration of the Hooley Plunge started with Dr. Sean McCagh as a fundraiser for the YMCA ice rink. Now in its 12th year, the Hooley Plunge has grown into one of the largest fundraising events in Allegany County and will this year reach the cumulative $1 million raised mark.  The inspiration of Dr. Sean McCagh, the Hooley Plunge annually raises money for the Special Olympics of Allegany County and several other local programs for the developmentally disabled by having residents enter the frigid waters of Lake Habeeb at Rocky Gap State Park. This year’s Hooley Plunge is scheduled for March 5 at 1 p.m. Members of the Alhambra Wamba Caravan No. 89 coordinate the event.
