The crash investigation revealed that Mary Ann Cleggett, age 48 was operating a 2005 Chevrolet passenger car on Henderson Avenue traveling west and attempted to make a left turn onto Mechanic Street. When Cleggett turned left she failed to yield the right of way to the police cruiser causing the crash. Cleggett's vehicle sustained damage to the driver side of the front fender. Cleggett was initially complaining of neck pain but refused treatment by the Cumberland Fire Department at the scene.
The Allegany County Sheriff's Deputy stated that he was traveling east on Henderson Avenue when Cleggett turned and crashed into the driver side of his police cruiser. The Deputy believes that he injured his back and was going to seek medical treatment by personal transport to the hospital later.
Both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene.
