On Wednesday, September 13th, 2023, at 0615 hours, the Cumberland City Police Department responded to the area of E/B Interstate 68 near Maryland Ave for the report of a m/v crash involving a tractor trailer. Upon arrival on scene, officers located a 2019 Kenworth laying on it’s side in the roadway, blocking two lanes of traffic. Officers immediately began to render aide to the two occupants located inside the cab of the truck. A 67-year-old female passenger was transported to UPMC Western Maryland by the Cumberland Fire Department with serious life-threatening injuries. The truck was being driven by a 70-year-old Kingsport, TN man who was also transported to UPMC with minor injuries.
Portions of Interstate 68 remained closed for several hours to allow for clean-up and investigation by members of the Cumberland Police Department Crash Team. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted with the road closure.
According to preliminary investigation, the truck traveled off the roadway striking an embankment and retaining wall, causing the truck to rollover. The causation of the crash remains under investigation at this time. Any witnesses or persons with information are asked to contact the Cumberland Police Department at (301)777-1600.

On December 4th, 2022 at approximately 3:00 p.m, the Cumberland Police Department responded to the intersection of N. Centre Street and Frederick Street for a pedestrian that was struck by a motor vehicle. The pedestrian was transported to UPMC Western Maryland for minor injuries. The investigation is on-going.
