On November 19th, 2022, The Cumberland City responded to a residence in the 200 block of Baltimore Ave for the report of an assault. Upon arrival on scene, officers contacted a victim and witness of the alleged assault. It was learned that an argument had broken out inside the residence between the victim and suspect that turned physical. During the altercation, the suspect began to choke the victim, causing her to lose breath. The victim was able to get away from the suspect prior to receiving any further injury. As a result, John Frederick Ammons, 90, of Cumberland MD, was placed under arrest for assault. He was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance where he was released on his own personal recognizance.

Charges: Assault 1st Degree, Assault 2nd Degree.
***Adult Arrest***
On November 19th, 2022, The Cumberland City responded to a residence in the 100 block of Polk St for the report of an assault. Upon arrival on scene, officers contacted the victim of the alleged assault. The victim advised that the suspect had returned to the home in an upset state which provoked an argument. The victim then alleges that the argument turned physical and they were assaulted. The incident escalated and the victim was pushed, falling down steps in the home. As a result, Juan Guarcas-Gabriel, 24, of Cumberland MD, was placed under arrest for assault. He was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance where he was released on a $2,500 unsecured personal bond.

On November 9th, 2022, The Cumberland City arrested Steven Michael Merriman, 24, of Cumberland MD. Merriman was arrested on two outstanding Bench Warrants issued by the Allegany County District Court, The warrants stemmed from Merriman failing to appear in District Court on a previous traffic charge and violating the terms of his probation on a previous trespassing charge. He was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance where he remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held on a total of $3,000 bond.
