Police Make Shoplifting Arrest

On Wednesday, January 4th, 2023, the Cumberland City Police responded to a Queen City Drive business for the report of a shoplifter. Once on scene, Officers contacted an employee from the business who stated they had observed the shoplifter in the store concealing items on their person. The employee then confronted the subject and had them remove the items from their person. During this time, the subject had an open bottle of alcohol which spilled on some of the merchandise, damaging it. The subject was also found to have an active Bench Warrant for violation of probation. As a result, Sommer Dawn Knotts, 40, of Cumberland MD, was placed under arrest. While being taken into custody, Knotts acted in a disorderly manner, continually yelling at officers and other patrons in the area. She was then found to be in possession of a quantity of suspected methamphetamine. She was taken before the District Court Commissioner for her Initial Appearance where she was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. She is currently being held on $500 bond.

Charges:  Bench Warrant-Violation of Probation, Resist Arrest, Destruction of Property, Theft less than $100, Disorderly Conduct. CDS Possession-Methamphetamine, Fail to Obey.

The Cumberland Police were called to a business on Queen City Drive for a reported shoplifting.  Upon arrival they contacted store employees who advised that a female had been observed concealing items in her bag and then left the store without paying for them.  Officers contacted the female, identified Taylor Reed Quick, age 30 of Cumberland MD.  Quick was placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland Police Station where she was issued a Criminal Citation for Theft Less than $100 and released pending trial.
