Cumberland Police Report

On Monday, January 9th, 2023, the Cumberland City Police responded to the area of the Allegany County District Court for the report of a wanted subject in that area. Upon arrival on scene, officers observed the subject leaving the area in a vehicle. Subsequently, the vehicle was stopped and the identity of the driver confirmed as William Charles Morris, 39, of Cumberland MD. Morris had an active Bench Warrant for violating the terms and conditions of probation that stemmed from a previous assault charge. It was also learned at this time that Morris was driving without a license and the vehicle he was operating was unregistered. As a result, Morris was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing. He was taken before the District Court Commissioner his Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held without bond.

On Monday, January 9th, 2023, The Cumberland City Police arrested Austin James Bible, 26, of Cumberland MD. Bible was arrested on an active Arrest Warrant issued by Allegany County District Court for an incident that occurred on December 29th, 2022. The warrant alleged Bible violated the terms and conditions of his pre-trial release that had been set due to a previous charges of sex offenses on a minor. He was taken before the District Court Commissioner his Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held without bond.

Charges:  Violate Conditions of Release-Person Eligible for Relief, Obstruct Justice.

On March 18, 2013 at approximately 11:52 PM a Cumberland Police Department vehicle was parked on Williams Street in the 300 block and was struck by an unknown vehicle.  The vehicle then fled the scene of the accident on Williams Street toward Maryland Ave.  A witness described the vehicle as being a Pontiac passenger vehicle and a possible model of a Grand Am or Grand Prix.  Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call Cumberland Police Department at 301-777-1600.
