For the ninth year, the Allegany Museum will kick off Heritage Days weekend with its Whiskey Rebellion event. Commemorating George Washington’s return to Cumberland to put down an insurrection against a whiskey tax, the evening begins at 6pm featuring a number of regional distillers, according to Marion Daniels…
“This year we have Grey Wolf, Charis, Fordham Lee, McClintock, Tenth Ward, Schmitz Spirits, Pathfinder, Rosy Cheeks, Meinelschmidt, and a new distiller out of Hagerstown – Church Street Distilling Company.”
Vic Rezendez tells WCBC other kinds of drinks will also be available. Tickets are $60 in advance and $80 at the door.
“There’s bourbon, gin, vodka, cordials – a lot of different cordials, a lot of different moonshines in all various flavors, plus an open bar for beer and wines.”

Over fifteen different distillers from around the region will bring their best spirits to the Whiskey Rebellion Festival on September 13. The festival commemorates the area’s rebellion against a so-called whiskey tax and George Washington’s last visit to the area to put down the rebels. The event began in 2016 and serves as the major fundraiser for the Allegany Museum on Pershing Street. Committee member Joe Caporale says there are a variety of whiskies and other spirits available…
“They bring vodkas. They bring moonshines. They bring bourbons. They bring whiskies. They bring – one year one had Moscow mules already made up. So they give like a plethora of spirits that they offer. And then you can taste it and if you like, you can buy the bottle.”
