Candidates Answer Questions About Red County in Blue State

At Wednesday evening’s candidate forum for Allegany County Commissioner, Republican candidates were asked how they would navigate being a predominantly Republican county in a dominant Democrat state. Candidate Dee Dee Ritchie said being party-blind is best…

“I don’t see a R or D when I’m working for the county. And I think that’s what’s important. They got to quit fighting between Republican and Democrat. I mean, we make mistakes, they make mistakes, it’s just all about relationships.

Incumbent Dave Caporale says that county residents come before party affiliation…

“We have a responsibility to work with the people that are here or anywhere for that matter for the issues that are facing us. I think that’s where it ends with me. If you have that responsibility, regardless of what party, it’s to try to get the best thing done for your county.”
