County Budget Stable, Commissioners Remain Cautious

Overall, financials for Allegany County’s 2027 budget appear stable, especially with restoration of the $6 million Disparity Grant from the state to the County. County Administrator Jason Bennett says those dollars will help fully fund requested budget items and some money will be put into the Fund Balance. Though necessities will be taken care of this fiscal year, Bennett says concerns still remain…
“We spent a lot of money with the floods and recovery. We certainly have not replenished those funds fully. We also have to watch the state budget for next year as they have a proposed $4.5 billion deficit. So, we have to sort of prepare and be ready for things to get worse on this next year. So, this is great this year, and we’re content and happy, but at the same time we’re cautious for the next year.”
