County to Conduct Waterline Survey
Allegany County water customers should be on the lookout for a survey from the County. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Maryland Department of Environment is requiring that the material of waterlines, especially copper, lead, or galvanized pipe be reported for documentation. Dan DeWitt, County Engineer of the Department of Public Works, told the Commissioners the survey is for a thorough assessment…
“Most of our as-built drawings and records don’t show what that material is because, in many cases, we were connecting to existing water service laterals. So, we can make some assumptions based on what we know, based on time periods and things like that. Ultimately, though, to have validation and confirmation of what it is, we need to get information from the person who’s actually there.”
