The latest County Economic Status in Appalachia report released by the Appalachian Regional Commission shows that four counties in the tristate area are labeled as being “transitional.”  The label means counties exist between having either a strong or weak economy. Allegany, Garrett, Hampshire, Mineral and Bedford counties were in the same “transitional” category. The Appalachian Regional Commission methodology is based on unemployment, income, and poverty rates and is used to determine levels for ARC grants.
