Morrisey Orders Flags To Half-Staff For Fallen Firefighters Weekend

Governor Patrick Morrisey has ordered all United States and West Virginia flags at the State Capitol Complex in Charleston to be lowered to half-staff from dawn on Saturday, May 2, 2026, until sunset on Sunday, May 3, 2026, in honor of National Fallen Firefighters Weekend.
“This weekend, we honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others,” said Governor Morrisey. “Firefighters and emergency personnel put themselves in harm’s way every day to protect our communities, and we are forever grateful for their courage and commitment.”
Firefighters and emergency services personnel serve as the first line of response in emergencies ranging from fires and medical incidents to natural disasters and accidents. Each year, dozens of firefighters across the nation lose their lives in the line of duty, underscoring the risks they face in protecting the public.
National Fallen Firefighters Weekend recognizes those who have given their lives in service and encourages citizens to reflect on the dedication and sacrifice of both past and present members of the fire service.
The Governor encourages all West Virginians to join in honoring these heroes and to keep their families and fellow first responders in their thoughts and prayers.
