New Citizenship Rules Create Hurdles for PA Immigrants

Immigrant advocates in Pennsylvania say new barriers to U.S. citizenship are creating fear and confusion for families already navigating a complex immigration system. Lori Alexander with the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society says eligible people are afraid to apply for citizenship, and delays in interview scheduling and oath ceremonies leave others in limbo…
“We’ve only had four people interviewed since December, and I think we’ve had six or seven people have their oath ceremony since then. So things are just really, really moving slowly. It seems to be on purpose to prevent people from becoming citizens soon.”
