Priority Of Work Involves Creek Bed

Jim Zamagias

The $12 million dollars coming from the State of Maryland for flood recovery efforts in the Georges Creek area won’t be able to cover everything needed or reimburse the county for the millions already spent on getting the area back on its feet. However, Lonaconing Mayor Jack Coburn told WCBC recently that there has to be a priority of dredging the creek before another huge weather event…

“What happens is all the towns’ water sources raindrop falls into the Georges Creek area and then heads down to Westernport to get into the Potomac. There is trees blocking areas yet. We need to be more proactive, get in there, get the creek cleared, and then if it does happen again, the water will stay in its channel.”
