Shale gas is a proposed solution to the electricity demand of data center development in Pennsylvania, but research finds ramping up natural gas production to power the facilities creates relatively few new jobs.  Sean O’Leary with the Ohio River Valley Institute says their recent report shows employment around data centers has decreased because the industry relies on investors, not workers…

“Gas-fired power plants all the way down to the data centers that they power, there is a common denominator, which is that all of those sectors – all of those industries – are very capital-intensive and not at all labor-intensive.”
