Superintendent Says School System Attentive to Spending

Allegany County Public Schools will be increasing starting teacher salaries to over $61,000 this fall but Superintendent Dr. Michael Martirano says the school system is strong financially.  Dr. Martirano told WCBC that there are solid procedures in place…

 

“We have an amazing Chief Financial Officer, Larry McKenzie who monitors all of our dollars. We have independent audits that come back in a very positive way.”

Dr. Martirano added that budgeting for the school system requires a team effort…

“I have to allocate money for the salaries, I have to pay for the utilities, I have to pay for our buses. And we make our projections and we live within our means, making certain that we’re not adding anything to put our taxpayers at risk.”
