The Mayor and City Council of Cumberland Select Next Fire Chief

The Mayor and City Council of Cumberland, Maryland plan to officially appoint Stephen L. Grogg to be the next Chief of the Cumberland Fire Department at their public meeting on July 7, 2026. Mr. Grogg, of Cumberland, brings over thirty years of progressive experience in the Cumberland Fire Department to this position. He began his career with the Cumberland Fire Department in 1995 and has progressed through the ranks, holding the title of Deputy Chief and Battalion Chief. He brings a wealth of fire service command and administrative experience. Mr. Grogg holds a Bachelor’s in Business/Marketing from Frostburg State University and is a graduate of Frankfort High School. Mr. Grogg was chosen after an open public search and a comprehensive candidate interview process. The Mayor and City Council are very pleased with the quality of candidates that were interested in the position and are excited to appoint Mr. Grogg as the next Fire Chief of Cumberland.
