Threat of Mass Violence Arrest

On Thursday, August 13th, 2026, the Cumberland Police Department arrested Richard Bradley Hopkins, 44, of Sykesville MD. On this date, the Cumberland Police Department received a complaint that Hopkins had made threats of mass violence toward a local government agency. Officers spoke to the complainant, who advised they had heard Hopkins make descriptive threats aloud in a public place and were concerned. Upon further investigation, officers confirmed the alleged statements were made and filed charges with the District Court Commissioner. He appeared before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held on a temporary commitment.
