Traffic Stop Leads to CDS and Recovery of a Stolen Handgun Arrest

On Wednesday July 22, 2026, a Deputy with the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office was conducting routine patrol on Route 36 in Westernport when he observed a traffic violation. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the operator of the vehicle. During the traffic stop the deputy was able to establish that a handgun was unlawfully in the vehicle. As a result, the deputy recovered a handgun reported to be stolen from another State. Also, a large quantity of suspected fentanyl and crack cocaine were recovered. As a result, 43 year old Brandon James Hartman of Westernport was arrested and charged with various firearms and CDS distribution charges. The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office continues its mission to keep the citizens of Allegany County safe by removing CDS from the community and recovering a stolen firearm from the streets.
