Virginia Avenue Assault, Reckless Endangerment Arrest

On Thursday, September 17, 2026, Cumberland Police Department Officers responded to a disturbance in the area of Virginia Avenue. Upon their arrival, they were advised Raef Thompson had threatened to assault a subject with a hammer. Thompson was detained and officers located the hammer concealed on him. Thompson was placed under arrest and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center for central booking. Thompson had an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner and was held without bond.
